Two weeks today and it is off to start the Camino de Santiago. Some 800 km from St. Jean Pied de Port on the French side of the Pyrenees, across Northern Spain to end up in Santiago de Compostela. After months of thinking about it, reading the stories of others who have done it as well as talking to those who have done it before me the time is almost here. It feels like there has not been enough preparation time, not enough Spanish absorbed and not enough physical training. With only the one hotel stay booked when I arrive in Biarritz in France this is a trip well outside my normal comfort zone, which of course is the point of a pilgrimage. With a small pack on my back containing most of what I will need as I move from village to village this will certainly be an exercise of living simply and hopefully learning and mastering the art of "living in the moment"
