I am now in Pamplona and have completed day three. this seems pretty good until I think about how many more days there are to go...one day at a time my mother uses to say...
After two days the muscles are no less tired, I am sure it will get better eventually. I mentioned in my first post from Spain that the climb was steep, I am going to try to post a couple of photo's to illustrate what it looked like, not steep by mountain climbing standards but a very long grind up.
After Roncessvalles the next planned stop was Larrasoana however we learned that it was closed for a few days, the choice was Zubiri, a short 20km away or a further 17km to the next Alburgue. When I started the day I had thought I would go further but once in Zubiri, common sense won out and I stayed. There are a tremendous amount of people on the walk, the old monastery in Roncessvalles would nor, ally expect around 200 people, they were full at 300 and could not understand why there are so many people out. It makes finding a place more difficult and you do have to be out early. In the municipal hostel in Zubiri last night there were about 80 of us I. Beds and another 100or so latecomers on the floor in a large room, many without mattresses.
Today I arrived in Pamplona, again with thoughts of going further but I opted to stay in a very nice hotel and explore this lovely old city.
There are certainly lots of interesting people on the camino, all ages but with more my age and quite a bit older, people from all over the world and, because the world is such a small place I was not too surprised to meet someone from Victoria at the hostel last night.
Tomorrow I am aiming for Punta la Reina, a little longer walk, around 26km and that includes a hopeful detour to an old Templar church along the way.
